Week 5 Top of the Crown

1. SM East (4-0): Lancers proved they're worthy of the hype after shutting out defending State Champions Olathe South 3-0 on Thursday.  Lancers will host Olathe East this week.
2. Olathe South (3-1): Olathe South lost won game last season as well and went on to win the State title.  How will the Falcons respond this year with a tough trip to Lawrence High.
3. Lawrence Free State (3-1):  Firebirds woke up with enough time to hold on to a 34-28 win over Olathe North on Friday.  Kyle McFarland looked impressive as usual, up next is a Thursday night trip to SM North.
4. SM West (3-1): Defense played a huge part in a 18-8 win over Olathe East and Brett Sterbach has proved to be one of the leagues top running backs.  As always West looks tough getting ready for districts, this week they'll face off with Gabe Guild and SM South on Thursday night.
5. Lawrence (3-1): Lawrence had no problem with SM North winning 46-20, but a tougher challenge looms this week as Olathe South comes to town hungry to avenge a loss last week.
6. SM South (3-1): SM South is on a three game winning streak and their only loss is to top ranked SM East.  We'll find out if the Raiders can keep things going as they'll face SM West, and Lawrence in the next two weeks.
7. Olathe East (1-3): OE is almost in a must win for morale game this week at SM East.  The Hawks have the talent in running back Hayden Frazier, if they can keep the pressure on we could see an upset.
8. Leavenworth (3-1): If Leavenworth can beat Olathe North this week they'll be sitting 4-1 heading into the toughest stretch of any schools in the league as they'll play SM West (3-1) and then district where currently every team in Leavenworth's district is also 3-1.
9. SM Northwest (1-3):  Cougs haven't won a game since week one, but a game this week with Olathe Northwest could be the relief they were looking for.  If the NW defense can stop ONW the Cougars could roll in this one.
10. Olathe North (0-4): Gene Weir nearly provided some of that old school magic we used to see with this program on Friday night, but ultimately fell 34-28 to Free State.  This week Olathe North will have to play with the same heart and toughness as they meet up with Leavenworth.
11. Olathe Northwest (0-4): Ravens came up seven points short of their first victory on Friday as they fell 30-23 to Leavenworth.  Up next is SM Northwest and if the Ravens can continue their potent passing game we could see ONW at 1-4 next week.
12. SM North (0-4): Having to face Lawrence and Free State back to back weeks would be a nightmare for any team, North was able to put up 20 points on Lawrence but with a defense giving up 50 points a game the Indians don't have much of a shot in this one.
