Week 3: Top of the Crown

1.Olathe South (2-0): Falcons looked dominating in their week two victory over SM North. How much of it though was OLS being the real deal or SMN having no defense?  We'll find out in week three as Olathe South travels to Free State.
2. Lawrence Free State (2-0): Defenses haven't been able to stop Kyle McFarland yet as he's led the Firebirds to a perfect record thus far.  If anyone is going to stop Olathe South early this season it'll be LFS at home.
3. SM East (2-0): Jordan Darling picked the Olathe North defense apart on Friday throwing for 266 yards and three touchdowns.  The Lancers have outscored their first two opponents 53-7, and shouldn't have a problem throwing the ball on Olathe NW this week.  I expect the Lancers to be sitting 3-0 next week.
4. SM West (1-1): Brett Sterback has proved he's a legitimate threat at running back this season for the Vikings, but if SM West wants to compete for a league title this season they'll need more consistent play from their quarterback.  The Viking defense should be able to control Olathe North for a win this week.
5. Lawrence (1-1): Brad Strauss and Tyrone Jenkins had no problem with SM Northwest on Friday as the Lions ran past the Cougars 42-13.  Expect more of a challenge this week as Lawrence hosts Olathe East.
6. Olathe East (1-1): Olathe East responded from a week one loss in a big way with a 28-14 victory over Olathe Northwest.  Hayden Frazier led the Hawks with 250 yards rushing and four touchdowns.  We'll find out if OLE will be a factor this season as they travel to Lawrence this week.
7. SM South (1-1): Gabe Guild continues to impress as he helped the Raiders to a week two win over Leavenworth 17-3 last week.  A match up with SM North this week shouldn't provide much of a challenge for South.
8. SM Northwest (1-1): The Cougars couldn't pull off a second upset in as many weeks this time against Lawrence.  Northwest just didn't have the talent to match up with the Lions and trailed by as much as 35 at one point.  A match up with Leavenworth this week should be a tight game between two evenly matched teams.
9. Leavenworth (1-1): The Pioneers could easily be 2-0 this week but too many mistakes kept them from beating a tough SM South squad.  Look for Jason Randall to be a problem for the Cougars this week as Leavenworth hosts Northwest.
10. Olathe North (0-2): Things can't get much worse for Olathe North as they currently hold the league's longest loosing streak at six games.  North was blown out on Thursday by SM East, and things don't get any easier this week as they host a very solid SM West team.  Is it crazy to say Olathe North could possibly go 2-7 this season?
11. Olathe Northwest (0-2): Olathe Northwest gave Olathe East a scare this week as the Ravens trailed by only 6 in the fourth quarter.  Holdyn Halperin leads a potent air attack that will need to be flawless this week as the Ravens host SM East.
12. SM North (0-2): If you want a moral victory for SMN they did score the last 13 points of the game against Olathe South on Friday, but Olathe South scored the first 56.  North will continue to fight, but an 0-9 season seams pretty realistic at this point.
